Storm Kathleen: weather warnings as gales forecast for today

Weather forecast

The Met Office said today will be very windy, with gales possible, particularly in the west, as a result of Storm Kathleen, although it will be largely dry with sunny spells.

Tonight will be largely dry to start, with heavy rain arriving overnight, while winds will ease a little.

Met Office forecasters said Sunday will be another windy day, with heavy showers before conditions turn drier later in the evening.

Conditions will remain unsettled into next week, with rain on Monday, sunshine and showers on Tuesday, and more heavy rain on Wednesday.

Weather warnings

Weather warnings are currently in force, although they do not cover Herefordshire.

The current weather warnings cover the west coast of Wales and England, parts of Scotland, and Northern Ireland.

The Met Office said Storm Kathleen will bring a spell of very windy weather to parts of western Britain and Northern Ireland this weekend.

Southerly winds are expected to gust quite widely to 50-60 mph on Saturday, while some exposed spots, particularly in Northern Ireland, will see gusts to 70 mph with large waves also likely.

The warnings are in force from 8am to 10pm today.
