Jonathan Marsh, 33, a police constable attached to the East Area, is due in Westminster Magistrates’ Court tomorrow (June 6) to face a charge of assault by beating in November 2022.
PC Marsh is alleged to have used excessive force against a man he arrested outside a shop in Atlanta Boulevard.
Police had been called to the scene after reports of a man causing criminal damage outside the shop.
PC Marsh has been charged in connection to an ongoing investigation by the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).
The IOPC, the public body responsible for handling police complaints, began its investigation in February after receiving a complaint referral from the Met Police.
It sent a file of envidence to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) in April, which authorised the charge.
The CPS is the main public agency for conducting criminal prosecutions in England and Wales.
