Van man guilty of using cocaine before driving in Hereford

Paul Ellis entered guilty pleas to two counts of driving a motor vehicle with a proportion of a controlled drug over the legal limit when he appeared before magistrates this month.

The court heard from prosecuting solicitor Camila Toscano that the 46-year-old had been caught driving a VW Transporter while over the drug-drive limit on November 13.

He was driving in Newmarket Street, Hereford, at the time.

An evidential blood test revealed he had 200 microgrammes (mg) of benzoylecgonine, a metabolite of cocaine, and 30 mg of cocaine itself per litre of blood. This exceeded the legal limits for the drugs, which are 50 and 10 respectively.
