One social media user posted a picture to X yesterday (February 13), which purported to show an eviction notice on the door of the shop at 155 Brick Lane.
The “writ of possession” read: “Please note we have taken possession of the above mentioned property.
“Any attempt of re entry of the said property is an offence and proceedings will be taken for trespass and criminal damage.”

The Beigel Shop appeared to confirm the closure in an Instagram post the same day, but claimed it would only be for a “short period”.
The post read: “Dear Beigel family – we will be closed for a short period to conduct essential electrical maintenance.
“Stay connected with us on social media for updates and news about our reopening.
“Thank you for your support. We’ll be back before you know it, ready to bake and serve our Beigel family with love.”
The shop boasts a history dating back to 1855, and 24/7 opening hours – and had become one of the most popular spots in Brick Lane.
It is just a few doors down from another institution, the Beigel Bake or ‘the white one’, which is also open 24 hours a day.
Underneath Beigel Shop’s post, one Instagram user commented: “I was there on Saturday buying my weekly biegal [sic] and it was busy, really busy – what’s happened?”
Another simply said: “Save the beigel shop”.
The Beigel Shop has been contacted for more information.
