The Black Dog in Vauxhall shot to public attention in April when it was immortalised in a song on Taylor Swift’s album The Tortured Poet’s Department.
In the song, she explains how she tracked her ex to ‘some bar called The Black Dog’ after an argument when he forgot to turn off his phone location.
Not only have Swift’s fans travelled far and wide to sit in the same bar as their idol, but they inundated staff with requests to buy its branded pint glasses as memorabilia.
Now the pub has launched an online store to cash in on the buzz, selling The Black Dog branded items in a range of colours including oversized and cropped hoodies, T-shirts, jumpers, baseball caps, tote bags, pint glasses and travel mugs starting at £20.
In addition to the influx of customers, The Black Dog pub has also seen a surge in social media engagement, with more than 2 million views on its TikTok account.
The Black Dog pub’s owner, Jonathan Murray, said he was delighted by the Taylor Swift effect: “We’ve always known we have something special here at The Black Dog, but since Taylor’s album dropped the attention is beyond anything we could have imagined.
“Our booking system has been bombarded; we receive over 100 requests a day we cannot accommodate. We’ve had nearly 100 pint glasses stolen, which are now being sold on eBay. We’ve repainted the toilets twice from die-hard Swifties scrawling ‘We love TS’ all over the walls. It’s been an absolute whirlwind, but we’re thrilled to welcome new faces to the pub.”
Taylor Swift’s Eras tour arrives at Wembley Stadium on June 20.
