Thirteen people including five children were forced to evacuate a block of flats in Streatham after a fire broke out in a garage below them in the early hours of Wednesday morning (June 23).
Fire crews and paramedics responded to the fire, which broke out sometime before 3.27am on Wednesday when emergency services received the first of at least 20 calls about the fire.
They arrived to the scene at Baldry Gardens in Streatham to find a garage below a block of flats ablaze.
London Fire Brigade (LFB) said that seven women, a man and five children were treated on scene by paramedics with London Ambulance Service crews.
Seven among them were later taken to hospital for further treatment.
Station Officer Simon Cook, who was at the scene, said: “We arrived to find a car fully alight in a car port underneath a block of flats.
“The blaze was producing a large amount of smoke in the area.
“Crews worked quickly to bring the fire under control and assisted local residents.”
LFB said both they and the Metropolitan Police are now investigating the cause of the fire.
