The venue is located at 62 Westow Street and the proposal includes replacing the shopfront, creating an external dining area, installing signage, and building a raised terrace.
The application has received mixed responses from the local community. Of the 43 comments submitted, 22 are objections while 20 are in support.
According to the applicant, these changes will enhance the building’s appearance, improve access, and reduce congestion along Westow Street.
The entrance will be relocated to the corner of the unit, and the existing glazing and framing will be replaced.
The current Poundland branding will be removed to allow clearer views in and out of the restaurant.
The applicant states that the plans represent a significant investment in the site, with work to be carried out on both the interior and exterior of the unit.
Extensive repairs are planned for the building’s wrap-around canopy, which the applicant says will restore an important architectural detail.
A stepped entrance will be installed, framed by planting, decking, and an outdoor seating area.
The external seating will be raised to align with the interior floor level and will be covered by the existing canopy.
The applicant describes the design as creating an inviting dining space with open views.
Proposed signage will be minimal, including a fascia sign, projecting signs, and a menu box.
A separate application has been submitted for the installation of mechanical plant at the rear of the building.
McDonald’s had previously considered opening at the site but ultimately decided against moving forward.
Croydon Council’s planning authority will now assess Nando’s application before making a decision.
