Man caught masturbating in Clapham Junction station toilets

A man rushed to the public toilets and had just sat down to do his business when he noticed a hole in the cubicle.

He looked through and saw Jon Walker staring right back at him while masturbating.

Walker, 49, of Thurlow Park Road in Dulwich, was arrested and charged with voyeurism.

He fought the charge but was found guilty by a jury.

On Wednesday (March 13) he appeared at the Old Bailey for sentencing.

Walker explained that he had been ‘cruising’ in the Clapham Junction area on November 11, 2022.

By this he meant that he was out with intention of finding someone to have a sexual encounter with.

He had previously been cautioned by police for similar activity, including looking under toilet stalls.

His barrister, Tabitha Everett, said: “He has reflected on the practice of cruising more broadly and now fully understands that it is inappropriate.”

She added: “He is genuinely very sorry about what he has done, he is ashamed and has already lost his job as a result of this conviction.”

Judge Reid said: “Voyeurism is a serious offence. In fact [the victim] in some ways took the matter pretty pragmatically, but he was concerned about if it was somebody else in that cubicle, in particular a child.

“I make it clear that you would not have had no interest at all if there was a child. You were looking for an adult man.

“But that there is the risk, you see, of undertaking activity in a public toilet. Particularly a busy one like at Clapham Junction Station.”

He told Walker: “A public toilet is not the place to find someone to have a sexual encounter with because many people in the toilet are just using it for its normal function.

Judge Reid gave Walker an 11 month community order including 40 hours of unpaid work.

“Whatever you do in the future, stay out of public toilets,” he warned Walker.
