Man arrested after train crashes into buffers at major station

Govia Thameslink Railway (GTR) has confirmed that the incident took place at London Bridge station, and involved a Southern service from Victoria station.

The train collided with buffers while travelling into the station “at low speed” at around 3.45pm on Friday afternoon (December 13).

British Transport Police have confirmed that officers attended the scene at platform 12, and that one man has been arrested on suspicion of endangerment on the railway.

He has since been released on bail “pending further enquiries”.

A GTR spokesperson said: “There were no reports of any injuries, and its passengers left the station. The British Transport Police and Rail Accident Investigation Branch have been advised.”

It is understood that the train involved was returned to its depot the same day, and that the platform was back in use the next morning.

The Rail Accident Investigation Branch has been approached for a response.
