Disruption warning as strong winds to batter Herefordshire

A yellow weather warning is set to come into force across the entire county on January 1.

The Met Office warning for wind will be in force from 7am to 11.59pm.

Forecasters at the Met Office are warning that an area of low pressure is expected to track across England and Wales, with strong southwesterly winds on its southern flank.

The Met Office said the strongest winds are expected across coastal regions in the west and south of the warning area, where gusts of 65 to 75 mph are possible.

Inland gusts will typically be in the 40 to 50 mph range, but a brief spell of 60 mph gusts is possible in association with the passage of an active, squally cold front during the afternoon.

Further weather trouble is also on the way to the west of Herefordshire, with a yellow weather warning for rain in force from 6pm today (December 31) to 6pm tomorrow.

The Met Office said heavy rain is likely to lead to disruption across Wales and northwest England, with a chance that some locations may experience flooding.

The heavy rain could see levels on the river Wye rise in Herefordshire, but no flood alerts are currently in force for the county.
