Located on Maiden Lane, Cinnamon Bazaar serves inventive Indian food with speciality cocktails within a stone’s throw of the Strand.
I was invited along with my friend to try out their menu in the lead up to Valentine’s Day, or Galantine’s Day in my case.
Spaced over two floors with a bar area and colourful décor, this is a great place for anyone looking to have a meal before the theatre.
Upon arrival, we were seated within a few minutes and began to browse through the menu, which features a more contemporary assortment of Indian dishes that play upon classic Indian flavours and spices.
For starters, we sampled the Tandoori Chicken Malai Tikka served with mace, cardamon and coriander chutney, and the Copra Patties, an Indian style potato cake filled with coconut.
Both were very flavourful, and I loved the sweetness of the patties along with the crispy outer texture and the warm spiciness against the chicken.
For mains I tried the Tandoori Kentish Lamb Cannon served with peshawari sauce and pilau rice, whilst my friend went for the Lamb Rogan Josh Shepherd’s Pie, which was also named in the Time Out ‘The 100 Best Dishes in London’ list.
We also went for some sides including a lemon rice, peshawari naan, and the house black dal.
The food was served very quickly and we were recommended wine pairings to accompany the meal by our servers.
One thing I can attest to is a more contemporary take on Indian dishes, using a lot of spice and flavour.
The Kentish Lamb Cannon came in a rich sauce, with a lot of sweetness with the peshawari, and the lamb itself was very tender.
The lemon rice was a very refreshing dish to have against the sweetness of the peshwari naan and the lamb.
For me what really stole the culinary show was the dessert, as I tried the Chocolate and Paan Mousse served with palm jaggery and nutmeg ice cream.
This dessert was delicious and light in texture with a slight crunch, and went well against the rich flavours of the ice cream.
My friend tried an assortment of sorbets which included mango, coconut and pistachio, which she said was refreshing after the fullness of the meal.
To finish we got a round of cocktails after eyeing them up for the longest time. I tried the Cinnamon Bellini made with Prosecco, cinnamon syrup and edible gold glitter.
This cocktail was definitely one of the prettiest I’ve had and honestly was one of the best cocktails I’ve tried, the cinnamon gave the drink a really warming taste and it’s definitely one I’d order again.
To mark Galantines Day, Cinnamon Baazar are hosting a “Chaat Your Heart Out” menu, featuring unlimited bowls of chaat for 90 minutes for just £15 on February 13 from 12pm – 9pm, or £29 for unlimited glasses of Prosecco for 90 minutes with the chaat and a la carte menus.
All in all, this place offers a unique spin on Indian flavours within the centre of London and makes a great spot to enjoy for a date or an evening out this Galantines Day.
